It was a lovely sunny morning, today, at Oakley for the Club Drawn Two Wood Pairs and the opportunity to collect at the Club Dinner the prestigious Malshanger Bowl, donated by Sir Michael and Lady Colman. With teams divided into two leagues, there was some close games and a few surprise results. In the Blue League there were clear winners with Richard Wallis, who began bowling less than a month ago and Ladies Captain Sue Dixon losing only one game. The Red League, however, was so tight with Marilyn Stanhope and Martin Smith, tied on points and shots difference, with Marion Bringes and Steve Devonish. For the first time ever, a one end shoot out was needed to decide who progressed to the final and it was Marion and Steve who went forward. For Marion, who lost the 2021 final on the last bowl, it was a chance to make up for that disappointment but she was denied again as Richard and Sue made it a story book ending for Richard in what was his first ever competition. Congratulations to both finalists, to all who participated and to those involved with the organisation. The event was concluded in 4.5 hours and we were on the way home by 2pm.
