OAKLEY BOW OUT OF COUNTY TOP CLUB

Tonight at Malshanger, Oakley bowed out of the County Mixed Top Club losing 2-3 to Alton Social. With both teams missing players, due to clashing committments - a problem that is only likely to be worse next year as Bowls England introduce futher Championships without any compensating reductions- it was anyone's guess as to how the evening would pan out. In the event Oakley, with seven changes from the previous round, always faced an uphill struggle after losing both Singles disciplines, the men's by 20-21, and, even though the Triples and Fours were winning, the game had to be conceded after the Pairs went down to a narrow defeat. Scores are not currently to hand but the Oakley team was; Singles - Camilla Kingshott and Bob Goodyear, Pairs - Angie Rowe and Dave Harrison, Triples - Sue Dixon, Trevor Wearn and Graham Tompkins, Fours - Mary Varndell, Malcolm Grime, Kay Kerley and Fred Norris.
