Oakley's heavy defeat against Littleton in the second of this year's Moreton Cup games meant that for this morning's final group game, against Atherley, Oakley had to pick up all 5 points and rely on one of the teams above them to slip up. A team showing four changes from the previous match, sadly, started slowly and after 5 ends Oakley trailed 10-6. By 10 ends, and again at 15, the scores were level but to qualify Oakley needed to win on both rinks and this never looked likely with Oakley losing on aggregate by 37 shots to 34. Three points went to Atherley and two to Oakley with those two points ensuring we just avoided the bottom spot in the group, benefitting from a better shots difference. Oakley scores: Terry Varndell, Norman Frost, Sean Lassman and Steve Devonish lost 12-24; Martin Smith, John Ryan, John Yarrall and Martin Vickers won 21-13.
