In last night's Ambler/Fuller Trophy matches, at Loddon Vale IBC. Nothing but a win for Oakley would be enough if they were to reach the semi final of the competition for the eighth successive year. Having given themselves a mountain to climb by failing to win their first two round robin games, victories in their next two games left them in last night's final group match needing to overcome group leaders AWRE to progress. In the early stages, the teams were evenly matched with Oakley leading 3-2 after 5 ends but when Oakley picked up a 5 on the 9th end and led 12-3 a comfortable Oakley win looked to be on the cards. AWRE immediately hit back with a 4 but 11 shots over the next 5 ends took Oakley into a commanding lead and, despite dropping a late 4 the team of Steve Devonish, Bob Goodyear, Sean Lassman and Graham Tompkins ran out winners by 31-14. Oakley wil play the semi final on 4th March.
