OAKLEY PROGRESS IN MIXED TOP CLUB
This morning Oakley travelled to Hook for another round of the County Mixed Top Club competition. With several regular players missing, as they were at Johns Trophy and Middleton Cup trials, the team had only 4 players in the same position as they played in the previous round. Fortunately both singles players were available and Nicole Rogers soon picked up the first point with a comfortable victory. Elsewhere things did not look so good. Ashley Nethercliffe was involved in a tight singles game with Tony Gepp and at 12 ends the Triples and Fours were losing by 5 and 6 shots respectively and with the Pairs well up it looked as if the match result would come down to which club won the Men's Singles. There was, therefore, relief amongst the Oakley supporters when Ashley, after 24 ends, triumphed to secure a second and potentially decisive point. By now the Pairs were well up and, with the Fours having regained the lead, Hook soon conceded the game, even though there were 3/4 ends to play in the remaining disciplines.
Oakley scores: Nicole Rogers won 21-5, Ashley Nethercliffe won 21-15, Alice Lovett and Bob Goodyear won 21-9, Janie Vickers, Malcolm Grime and Spencer Kerley lost 10-13, Mary Varndell, Ruth Bown, Sean Lassman and Ted Brown won 18-15
