A very big thank you to everyone who contributed to making our Open Day on 29th May such a successful and enjoyable event. We had 55 visitors, 11 of whom handed in membership applications on the day, 3 more have applied since then and a further half dozen or so took application forms home with them. We’ve fast tracked the applications and our new members are already spending time on the green learning the ropes and getting to know each other. You may have seen some of them having a roll up on Friday evening on one of the spare rinks alongside the Waghornes matches. We hope this use of spare rinks on Friday evenings will be a regular thing and that some of the Club’s established members will offer to join in if numbers permit.

We had nearly as many members as visitors present on the day. Most were helping, but some came along to support the event. We made a tidy profit of about £600 from the bar, refreshments and the raffle. Hardly any merchandise from the Pershore Bowls shop was sold, maybe because it was tucked away between the raffle stall and the bar, but it’s set us thinking that we should make more of the merchandise that we sell at the Club. Many of our members may not be aware that items such as club shirts, spray chalk, bowls grip and CWBC bowls stickers are available to purchase from behind the bar. We intend displaying a price list in the clubhouse. If someone is willing to be our merchandise ‘shopkeeper’, managing and publicising what’s for sale, please have a word with our President, Mike Newman.

As always, our stalwart photographer Colin captured some wonderful pictures of the day several of which are now in the Gallery on the CWBC website. Colin’s also going to get some of the photos made into an album that will be on display in the clubhouse.

The last thing to mention about Open Day is that we’re capturing views about what worked well and what didn’t so that we know what to do differently next time. For example, we think bacon rolls should be available all day instead being replaced with sandwiches in the afternoon; the homemade cakes went down a treat so they will be kept on the menu. If there’s anything in particular that you think could be improved, please have a word with Andy or Yvonne.
