With less than 24hrs to go to the start of the 2016 season, any play at the Opening Spoon Drive looked increasinly in doubt as torrential rain throughout Friday afternoon left the Green more fit for ducks than bowling! Saturday however dawned a little drier, although the temperature barely reached 6 degrees C all day, Undeterred by all this, by 3:00pm the greenkeeper gave the OK to play and 28 very hardy souls went out to play a Spoon Drive. A further 20, less hardy, members watched from the warmth of the Pavilion. After 8 ends the bowlers retired to the pavilion for a hot cup of tea before venturing out again for another 4 ends. President Mary was then able to announce the winners of the Silver Spoons, which were Val Ryan for the ladies, and John Yarrall for the men.
