Park Sport is needed now more than ever for young people and their families with a new and largely free offer for the summer.

The pandemic has had a significant impact on all our lives, and it's vital for us to look after our physical and mental health. To help your family do this in fresh ways, Eastleigh Borough Council (EBC) are offering safe activities online and at locations across the Borough throughout August. They may not be in the same format as previous years, but EBC are adapting the project to be more flexible and largely free to help families experiencing financial hardship.

This year the programme is presented in three different themes:

Adventure Story is a live interactive story trail created for 8-11 year olds by The Point Eastleigh team and held at Itchen Valley Country Park on the weekend of 15 and 16 of August. Bookings will open from Friday 31 July for groups up to six or from two households and costs only £1 per person. Can your family learn the old ways of the woodland, earn the secret key and keep the magic alive this summer?

For Virtual Challenges, local sports and activity providers have provided sets of three challenge videos for young people and their friends and families to try. Different provider’s challenges will be released each week and you can enter a prize draw with your achievements.

Discover your Parks holds a photography competition and a geocaching hunt. We’re looking for young people to share their best snaps of themselves getting active this summer or exploring the natural environment. The SportWorks team have also hidden a number of caches across the Borough and with colours cards for young people to collect – there will also be prizes randomly hidden in the caches throughout August.

To further help those in financial hardship, EBC are ensuring food banks and those receiving Housing Benefit letters gain priority booking for the Adventure Story and are providing Park Sport activity bags to handed out from food banks.
