Captain Fantastic surpassed all expectations today, 2nd September, with his Captain's Fun Day, called "pig in a poke".

We have run out of superlatives to describe the day with Tim's organisation and attention to detail, and his infectious enthusiasm.

The weather was good for the day. The food provided by the Malmesbury members was plentiful and tasty.

The raffle was full of prizes though most seemed to be won by one table.

Finally, Captain Fantastic (Tim) provided a thoughful and well considered set of gifts for the best rink, the second best rink, the best male and the best female bowlers and the shot of the day.

All in all a great success.

'Don't buy a pig in a poke' might seem odd and archaic language. It's true that the phrase is very old, but actually it can be taken quite literally and remains good advice.

The advice being given is 'don't buy a pig until you have seen it'. This is enshrined in British commercial law as 'caveat emptor' - Latin for 'let the buyer beware'. This remains the guiding principle of commerce in many countries and, in essence, supports the view that if you buy something you take responsibility to make sure it is what you intended to buy.
