The following advice has been issued by Kent Police after bogus caller reports in Dartford -
Between 5 and 6 August 2019 Kent Police has received six reports of a man acting suspiciously at residential addresses.
On most occasions he has knocked on the door to either ask for money to pay for petrol or request to come inside for a glass of water. Some residents have however reported seeing a man looking into windows and on one occasion a small amount of money was handed over.
Officers are conducting ongoing enquiries into the reports and have not ruled out the possibility the suspect for each report is the same man, who is generally described as being in his 40s, bald and between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 9ins tall.
Inspector Gavin Wade, from the Dartford Community Safety Unit, said: ‘We are conducting ongoing enquiries to locate any suspects linked to these reports however I would also like to remind residents of the following advice:
•‘Lock your back doors and windows before answering the front door.
•‘Use your spyhole and chain and ask who they are before opening the door.
•‘If you're not expecting a caller, and they can’t identify themselves, don’t let them in.
•‘If in doubt, ask them to leave and come back at a more convenient time when a family member or friend can be with you.
•‘Keep keys, cash and expensive items out of view.
•‘Keep gates locked and boundaries secure.’
