Last week the residents association had a call from Basildon Council to say that unfortunately Royale have withdrawn use of the clubhouse as a polling venue. Councillor Jeff Henry has warned that he's struggling to find another venue. The council only have a few weeks left before final plans are laid down for May's elections.
We joined the council in asking Royale to reconsider but the answer was no. It's sad that Royale can no longer support this wider community initiative especially as this has run without any issues for years.
Jeff said he'll have one last try but it might be prudent if those less mobile were to register for postal voting just in case our polling station is quite a distance away.
