Sevenoaks District Council is providing 12-weeks of free supported gym sessions for adults with visual impairments.

The sessions are available at White Oak Leisure Centre, Swanley on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 19 July 2023.

Wednesday sessions will take place between 6pm and 8pm and Saturday sessions will take place between 1pm and 3pm.

Each session will have an expert gym instructor on hand to provide support and encouragement.

Participants will receive their very own personalized training plan, as well as guidance to help them exercise in a safe and secure environment. Participants can also bring a carer, friend or family member to join the sessions.

The number of places is limited and booking is essential. To sign up, email sevenoakscommunity@everyoneactive.com or call White Oak Leisure Centre on 01322 662188.

Cllr Lesley Dyball, the Council’s Cabinet Member for People and Places, says: “We’re committed to making leisure services available to as many people as possible so we’re really excited to be offering free supported gym sessions for our visually impaired residents. The lessons will help with confidence and fitness while at the same time being sociable and fun.

“Spaces are limited so I would urge anyone who is interested to sign up as soon as possible.”

Hasan Romel, area contract manager at Everyone Active, adds: “We are delighted to open up opportunities for visually impaired people to receive supported gym sessions at White Oak Leisure Centre, free of charge.

“We are focused on breaking down barriers in physical activity for everyone, no matter what age or ability level, so this offering is another step forward in delivering this goal across our local community.”

Notes to editors

The free group support gym sessions are being delivered by Everyone Active with funding from Active Kent and Medway (Sport England Inequalities Fund).
