As part of this year’s Silver Sunday celebrations, Sevenoaks District Council is promoting a series of free events for older residents.

Silver Sunday (3 October 2021) was originally set up to tackle loneliness, however, in recent years, the national occasion has become an opportunity for older people to meet others, visit new places, try new activities and connect with their local communities.

Throughout October, older residents can sign up to coffee mornings, talks, health sessions and more!

The celebrations start on Monday 4 October with ‘Pop Up’ Sue Larken from AGE UK, running one of her famous ‘Pop up and pop in’ health sessions in Chiddingstone Causeway hall at 10.45am.

The ‘Every Step Counts’ walking group is dedicating its nine walks throughout the District to Silver Sunday for the week beginning 11 October 2021. These walks are great social events and an opportunity to meet new people over a cup of tea and a slice of cake while getting some gentle exercise.

Cabinet member for People and Places, Cllr Lesley Dyball, says: “Silver Sunday is a really positive way of supporting the older community to try new things for free and meet new people by attending existing events and activities.”

Cllr Dyball adds: “If you have an elderly relative or friend who you think would benefit from some more social interaction, encourage them to come along to a Silver Sunday event near them.”
