Press Report 24th August 26
Leamington finalists
Reaching the National Finals at Leamington is a fantastic achievement in itself, and Desborough Bowling Club was proud to have two teams representing the club on the national stage.
Both the Men’s Fours and Ladies’ Triples battled against some of the best bowlers in the country, producing some excellent performances and giving Desborough plenty to celebrate.
The Men’s Fours of Bob Forster, Paul Short, Mark Peachey and Lee Chamberlain enjoyed an impressive run, winning their opening three matches.
They began with a thrilling 17–16 victory over Norfolk, followed by an 18–14 win against St Lawrence from Kent. Their winning form continued with a convincing 22–15 victory over Headington from Oxfordshire, taking them through to the quarter-finals and placing them among the last eight fours in the country.
In the quarter-final, the Desborough four faced a strong Shaftesbury side from Dorset. Despite putting up a determined fight, they eventually lost 8–22.
The final score does not reflect the competitive nature of the match, but reaching the quarter-finals of a National Championship is a tremendous achievement and one of the four can be extremely proud of.
The Ladies’ Triples of Gina Braddock, Tonie Philpott and Kim Barao also represented Desborough with pride, producing a spirited performance in their opening round against Darlington Railway Athletic. In a closely contested game, the Desborough trio narrowly missed out, finishing 14–17.
Having two Desborough representatives competing at the National Finals is a fantastic achievement and highlights the strength and talent within the club.
Success Continues in the London & Southern Counties Competitions
There is still plenty to look forward to, with Desborough continuing to make its mark in the London & Southern Counties competitions.
Steph Crane remains in contention in the Ladies’ Singles, with her Area Final against a player from Southey Bowling Club still to come.
There was also success for Keith Roper and Mark Essex in the Men’s Pairs, as they secured an impressive 17–10 Area Final victory over Fleming Park.
The pair will now progress to the finals, which will be held at Southey Bowling Club on 5 September.
Everyone at Desborough wishes Steph, Keith and Mark the very best of luck as they continue their campaigns.

With national success already under their belts and more important matches still to come, there is plenty of excitement at Desborough Bowling Club.
