On Sunday 11 September, residents gathered outside Sevenoaks District Council offices for the historic Proclamation of the new Sovereign, His Majesty King Charles III.

The event was led by Council Chairman, Cllr Avril Hunter and other speakers included leader of the Council, Cllr Peter Fleming and Deputy Lord Lieutenant Lady Newey.

The Council’s Union flag briefly returned to full mast to celebrate the new King and was then returned to half-mast as a mark of respect for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Cllr Hunter says: “It was my honour to be part of such a significant day in history. There were mixed emotions following the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, but there was also a sense of excitement as we welcome a new era of the monarchy.

“It was wonderful to see so many people attending and we want to thank all the residents who came along to witness this historic day with us.”

Those who wish to sign the book of condolence can do so at the Sevenoaks District Council Offices Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm until Tuesday 20 September.
