While the Caring for God's Acre volunteers were working away in the churchyard it was discovered that all the old hay rakes stored in the village hall had woodworm and were falling apart (see photo). Jim, being a retired scarecrow and countryman, offered to make some new ones as he volunteers at the Cart Shed where they often make wooden tools as part of their projects. We do have to wait until the winter, however, as the ash and hazel used in the construction should be cut while the wood is dormant. We will feature their manufacture in coming articles.
