COVID-19f Fiskerton-cum-Morton Community Volunteers update

The ‘COVID-19 Fiskerton-cum-Morton Community Volunteer Group was set up to support residents stuck indoors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 30 volunteers came forward offering help – and this list keeps growing.

By now everyone should have received one of our postcards detailing the help on offer – if you haven’t please let us know. It seems many of those who are self-isolating or in the vulnerable category have a good network of friends and family to look after their needs.

However, we are here if you need us. This network of village volunteers is on hand to help with shopping and a host of other needs from DIY experts (one in Fiskerton and another in Morton) to a friendly phone call for those who feel isolated.

We have specific volunteers happy to pick up and deliver prescriptions. We have students offering help with dog walking. As well as shopping, we’ve dealt with requests for IT support and we’ve had a number of calls from people living alone saying it is just a comfort to know we are here.

As time goes on more and more people are establishing regular online shops – particularly now the supermarkets have opened up specific channels for those who can’t get out. However, volunteers are still helping to top up shopping for milk etc and deliver newspapers.

This is particularly useful to ensure someone is around to make sure all is well and just have a chat – at a safe distance of course. We can also give you details of local businesses offering to deliver veg/fruit boxes, take-aways, wet fish etc.

Members of the volunteer team are doing a great job picking up prescriptions. Others have been involved in night time emergency call outs and running people to prearranged hospital appointments.

Thanks to them and thanks to all our volunteers for what they do and their offers of help. We are here if you need us. And if you haven’t received a postcard please let us know.
