Message from Kent Police

We have been made aware of two recent incidents involving suspected scam calls where the caller claimed to be from Age UK.

What Happened?

  • One resident received a call from an individual claiming to be from Age UK who began asking questions about damp within the property.
  • Another resident was asked whether they were the homeowner before the call ended.

While the legitimacy of these calls cannot be confirmed, the circumstances raise concerns that criminals may be attempting to impersonate trusted organisations to gather personal information or identify vulnerable victims.

Protect Yourself

✅ Be cautious of unsolicited calls, even when the caller claims to represent a well-known or trusted organisation.

✅ Never provide personal, financial, or security information to an unexpected caller.

✅ If you are unsure, end the call and contact the organisation directly using a trusted telephone number obtained independently.

✅ Be particularly vigilant if the caller asks questions about your home, living arrangements, finances, or personal circumstances.

If You Receive a Suspicious Call

  • Hang up immediately.
  • Do not disclose any personal details.
  • If you have been targeted by fraud or cybercrime, report it to Report Fraud online at www.reportfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.
  • If you believe someone is at immediate risk, contact police on 999.

Please share this information with family members, friends, neighbours, and anyone who may be vulnerable to fraud.

Remember the ABC of Fraud Prevention:

A - Never assume.
Never assume a caller, email, text message, or website is genuine.

B - Never believe.
Never believe a caller or message is genuine. Criminals can spoof phone numbers and create convincing emails, texts, and websites.

C - Always confirm.
Always confirm who you are dealing with by contacting the organisation directly using a trusted phone number or contact method that you have sourced yourself.
