The Parish Council would like to hear from residents of Rodington and Longdon regarding an important highways issue in the village of Longdon. At the next Parish Council meeting, which will take place on Wednesday 11th February, the Parish Council will be deciding whether to increase the annual Precept for the Parish Council, in order to help fund the cost of permanent traffic lights in Longdon.

The bridge in Longdon is in need of urgent repairs and requires both short term repairs as well as a long term programme of monitoring and possible further improvement works.

At present there are temporary traffic lights in place on the bridge which residents have agreed has made using the road a lot safer. Residents are extremely concerned that once the temporary traffic lights are removed, the road will once again be unsafe for road users and pedestrians.

Despite the safety concerns of the residents, there is no funding available for permanent traffic lights for the bridge. This is a real concern for the Parish Council and the residents of Longdon and Rodington. Councillors have agreed that the Parish Council has a duty of care to continue to report this issue to Telford and Wrekin Council and to request permanent traffic lights at the site.

This is due to the high risk of injury or fatality.

Telford and Wrekin Council has agreed to look into the possibility of funding permanent traffic lights and has asked the Parish Council if it can contribute any funds.

The Parish Council has agreed to try and raise funds through the annual precept. However, this could result in a possible 115% increase in the precept, meaning that residents will incur an increase in their council tax.

This is a difficult decision for the Parish Council, and we would welcome feedback from residents at the next meeting.
