Rogue Traders - advice from KCC

I just wanted to send a little message from your KCC Community Warden Service, to ensure you all are reminded that as Spring has Sprung so have the Doorstep/Rogue Traders. As we all know as soon as the sun shines, we see an increase in traders (some more qualified than others!) chancing their luck and trying to get work by knocking door to door, often using the phrases “We are doing some work for your neighbour down the road”

Please DO NOT agree to have work carried out by a Doorstep/Rogue Trader, always use people either recommended by a friend or someone you know. Be sure to always get three separate quotes, and if in doubt at all look on Trading Standards Checked where the tradesmen are vetted.

If you have a visit from one of these callers, please do :-

  1. Never be pressured into agreeing to have work done.
  2. Report it to Kent Police via 101 or 999 if you feel threatened at anytime.
  3. Inform Kent Trading Standards
  4. Send a message to your friends within your local area to give them advance warning.
  5. Where ever possible either do not answer the door unless you are expecting a visitor, or use your door chain when opening the door.
  6. If you are able to have a Ring Doorbell fitted these are also great deterrents, and the recordings on them are so clear they are often used by Kent Police as evidence.

For any further information please do not hesitate to call 07969584183 or speak to your local Community Warden.

Stay Safe
