RomDAG get busy during Dementia Awareness Week
Romsey Dementia Action Group
Dementia Awareness Week 2016
Dementia Awareness Week (15th-21st May 2016) is a yearly, nationwide initiative aiming to raise awareness and promote understanding about dementia.
At RomDAG (Romsey Dementia Action Group), this year we tackled the challenge of providing both information and activities to people with dementia and the residents of Romsey. A number of Dementia Friends sessions took place throughout the week across the locality of Romsey.
We are proud of our team who organised a Market stand on Tuesday, where the public could gather information about dementia and help themselves to a free cupcake. Donations exceeded our expectations, thank you to our Romsey residents for their generosity! Volunteers spoke to over 35 residents on a range of queries. We also supported Eileen in launching her exercise class for people with dementia and their carers at the Royal British Legion. This session is now going from strength to strength.
Unfortunately, due to the rain, our Memory walk was called off. But again, this is another initiative that we attempted to showcase at Dementia Awareness Week and will continue throughout the year.
The Test Valley Arts Foundation Art Bus rolled into town on the Thursday where a number of people got involved in creating some wonderful art.
A big thank you to all of our organisers but more importantly, a big thank you to Romsey residents for your generosity, interest and enthusiasm.
