Kent Police report residents in Ramsgate have been targeted by fraudsters pretending to be Police officers. All Kent residents need to be aware of this crime.

What happens:
Residents will be told either:

  • Money has been taken from their bank account and staff at the bank branch are responsible.
  • The suspects have already been arrested but the 'police' need money for evidence.
  • A business such as jewellers or currency exchange is operating fraudulently and the Police need your assistance to help get evidence.

You are asked to help in an investigation by getting money from their bank or foreign currency from an exchange or buying an expensive item, which is handed over to a Courier for examination.

You are told you will be reimbursed, but there is no further contact and the money is never seen again.
What to do:

Do not respond - this is a SCAM. The Police will never ask you to:
  • Withdraw cash to hand over for safe keeping.
  • Transfer money out of your account for any reason.
  • Send a courier to collect cash or your bank details.

If you get a call like this, contact Police immediately on 101 or dial 999 if fraudsters come to your door.
