Following the recent resignation of Dawn Wyatt, an opportunity has arisen to join Milton Abbas Parish Council as a Parish Councillor.

This is a chance to play a meaningful role in shaping the future of our unique and historic community. Parish Councillors are at the heart of local decision-making—working together to represent residents, protect the character of the village, and help guide improvements that benefit everyone.

Whether you are passionate about community wellbeing, local services, planning matters, or simply want to give something back, your voice and perspective matter. Becoming a councillor offers a rewarding opportunity to:

  • Make a real difference in your community
  • Help influence decisions that affect Milton Abbas
  • Work collaboratively with others who care about the parish
  • Develop new skills and insights into local government

Who can apply?
The Council can consider any person to fill the vacancy provided they meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Are on the parish electoral register; or
  • Have resided in the parish for the past twelve months or rented/tenanted land in the parish; or
  • Have their principal place of work in the parish; or
  • Live within three miles (direct) of the parish

Please note the following disqualifications apply:

  • Holding a paid office under the local authority
  • Bankruptcy
  • Having been sentenced to a term of imprisonment (whether suspended or not) of not less than three months, without the option of a fine, during the five years preceding the election
  • Being disqualified under any enactment in relation to corrupt or illegal practice

All eligible candidates will be invited to attend a meeting of the Full Council following the application deadline. If candidates are unable to attend, the meeting will not be rearranged.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please complete Appendix B & C of the Co-option Policy, available here:
