Message from Bradenham Bowls Club

September brings rain!.

As the door closes on August, the nights are drawing in and the season is almost over. We reflect on the season with mixed results in all leagues and it’s fair to say the Chairman & I would like to thank those members who put themselves forward each week playing in all formats of the game whether at home or away, your commitment and spirit in the face of adversity remains second to none. We thank you for your support in representing Bradenham Bowls Club at a time where we have many members away due to ill health who we wish them well for the future.

A number of events are yet to be played out in the latter part of August and early September. Unfortunately, the 1st leg of the Ashby Shield on Thursday 27th August between ourselves and Watton (at Bradenham) was rained off with a heavy storm moving through, we pray for decent weather for the 2nd leg on Thursday 3rd September (at Watton).

The annual Ladies v Gents Competition took place on Sunday 30th August 2026 at 2.00pm where 3 blocks of Triples were planned. The weather was not looking great in the morning with heavy threatening clouds forming after a night of rain. Thankfully this gives way to warm sunshine, clear skies and the afternoon was set fair for an interesting and testing afternoon. The competition (as always) was played in good humour with a number of spectators supporting their favoured side, albeit mainly towards the ladies. The end result was the ladies won one block and the gents winning two, so the cup is retained by the gents this year. A big thank you to all the members taking part and in bringing a plate of food to savour afterwards with a cup of tea. I say a plate, there was a lot to go around.

On Wednesday 2nd September we have two teams playing at Hunstanton for the Joe Taylor Shield, we wish them well.

The Internal Club competition is now set for an interesting Finals Day with the following final matches:

  • Ladies Final between Marie Ramm v Rosie Hall.
  • Men’s Finals between Phil Hayward v Peter Clements
  • Open Pairs Final between John Wright & Robin Davis v Ralph Kinslay & Peter Clements

All being played on Sunday 6th September 2026 at 2.00pm.
