Following a very informative presentation by Sporle Parish Council in 2016 on the use of a Speed Awareness Camera the Council resolved to purchase a mobile Speed Indication Display unit (SID) for use in Swaffham.

Speeding in and around the town has become a major concern for residents and businesses for some time. Swaffham Town Council were encouraged to hear about the experience of Sporle Parish Council and the merits of the speed units, they had had a positive effect in their parish.

The Council took the decision to purchase a mobile Speed Indication Display unit (SID) for use in Swaffham; SID was installed in December initially along the Norwich Road and since in Lynn Street and Cley Road and is now working its magic on the Fakenham Road.

The mobile units are there to remind drivers of the speed limits for the roads leading into the town and to highlight when limits are exceeded.

The key aim of the unit is to reduce speeding and increase the safety and wellbeing of residents in the town.

Data, including numbers of vehicles, speeds, times etc are is recorded and a picture established for that road; potential concerns can then be passed to Highways and the Police who can take corrective action.

Look out for SID, coming to a road near you…………..
