Back in August when the Blackmore Vale fixtures were arranged, representatives from each of the teams were divided into five separate groups for the five divisions. The dates were agreed simultaneously without us having any idea of when our other teams would be playing their games.

It was therefore a complete coincidence that our second team, the Robbers, played away at Sixpenny Handley’s second team, the Tanners, in a BVL Division 5 fixture on Thursday evening, and just 24 hours later the same venue saw Sixpenny Handley take on the Kops in Division 2.

On a foggy Thursday evening the Tanners started brightly, and by the break led by seven points against Maureen Bishop, Irene Drummond and Robin Evans on Mat 1 and a single point against Del Way, Doug Leak and Anita Evans on Mat 2.

The tea and biscuits seemed to invigorate the ROBBERS, and some fine play from skip Maureen saw the players on Mat 1 stay level for the last ten ends, losing by 12 shots to 19.

On Mat 2 the trio led by Del dropped another two shots on the 11th end, but then finished very strongly, taking the final nine ends to run out comfortable winners by 21 shots to 11.

TANNERS 30 - 33 KEYNESTON ROBBERS (2 - 4)

On Friday evening the KOPS travelled to Sixpenny Handley Village Hall looking to continue with Keyneston’s winning ways.

This turned out to be the case, as they bettered the performance of the previous evening, taking a lead on both mats which they held for the entire match.

The final score was a very comfortable victory, with maximum points collected. Steve Clayton, Rob Williams and Cathy Gaffney won 29-14, while John Coady, Sally Burton and Maureen Williams won 24-10.

SIXPENNY HANDLEY 24 – 53 KEYNESTON KOPS (0 – 6)

Two good results for the Keyneston teams, and a theoretical 86 – 54 overall win for the club over the two evenings!
