Speed Indicator Devices at Coolham
The Speed Indicator Device by the Coolham Village Hall (affectionately known as a SID!) has proved successful in slowing traffic approaching the Coolham crossroads from the West. Thanks to Councillors Harry Woodage and Matthew Payne, another SID has been installed facing traffic coming away from the crossroads towards Billingshurst. Also huge thanks to Treesmiths (www.treesmithsltd.co.uk) for their invaluable assistance in fixing the devices.
More SIDs are planned for the other approaches to the crossroads and further information will follow once installed.
Other measures to reduce speeding on the approach to the crossroads are in progress. At the parish council meeting on 23rd March 2023, the Chairman referred to WSCC Cllr Jupp’s support of the 20mph zone Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) proposal for the four approach roads to the Coolham crossroads. Cllr Payne reported that he was in discussion with WSCC Highways regarding the proposed location of their suggested TRO and “buffer zoning”. The Highways team had suggested a 60mph, 40mph and 20mph zones approaching the Coolham crossroads.
Finally, the parish council has formed a Community Speedwatch team to support resident requests to help reduce speeding through Coolham. Despite frequent requests from residents for the parish council to take action in relation to speeding, very few of them have volunteered to join the Team. Please contact the parish clerk if you would like to join the Team and help reduce speeding through the village at shipleyparishclerk@gmail.com
