Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council are planning a 'Sport, Health & Wellbeing Day' to be held at the War Memortial Park in Basingstoke on Saturday 27th July 2024.

It is aimed to be an all-inclusive day promoting Sport, Health & Wellbeing focussed on families and the general public as a 'come, watch and have a go' event.

So far, BDBC have confirmation of participation from resident providers and clubs in the park and interested groups:

BMX and Skatejam group - National Tennis Association - Capital Cricket, Local Calithenics group - Basingstoke Academy of Dance - Serco Leisure (Potential Yoga, Mini golf and Wellbeing activities) plus Rangers Group.

They have also reached out to a number of dance groups plus Rugby and Gym Clubs to gauge interest but as keen to open it up to as many different types of sport / wellbeing groups as possible.

Constraints are that the clubs need to organise their own programme to fit in with the overall schedule of the day and to have appropriate insurance and procedures in place for the day.

Unfortunately, their is no budget for this event so hoping for the clubs good will and interest in promoting their offerings to the general public to try to improve awareness of what is available locally and the benefits of participating.

There will be a wet weather contingency plan which we are working on with the Tennis Centre around use of the indoor Tennis Courts. BDBC have two ‘pop up arenas’ which they are planning to use (one for dance activities) on the outside hard courts. (possibly on each side of one outdoor court subject to the weather). They have not planned to have a central marquee for the event, however, do have a number of Gazebos, tables and chairs available.

The BDBC comms team are currently working on setting up a webpage specifically for the event and BDBC have discussed the possibility of reaching out to local schools with leaflets. They are also now asking the clubs and groups involved to promote the event on their own social media channels to broaden the reach.

With this year again having so many top class sporting events taking place including the Paris Olympics, it would be great if as many clubs as possiblke could take part with displays and club promptions encouraging more people to take part in Sport, Health & Wellbeing Activities. This can of course include actice participation in event or Coaching, Officiating or Volunteering etc.

Leagues and Clubs are strongly encouraged not to miss this opportunity and contact the BDBC contact asap -
