Saturday's friendly game saw the Stinchcombe family pitched against the Stinchcombe family as Malmesbury played Tetbury. Stinchcombe won.

The rain held off and it brightened up for a while before getting cold. Malmesbury were losing to Tetbury at the half way mark when the rinks went in for tea and sandwiches. However after the break, Malmesbury surged back to win overall by 91 shots to 85.

Peter Young managed to win an end by bowling with the wrong bias which left the rink scratching their head as to how he managed it. This spurred his rink on to win by scoring 4 on the 20th end.

Captain Tim was his usual effervescent self but spared us the joke. Colin Hicks was skip for the Malmesbury rink with the Smarties for the worst loss.

For information, Stinchcombe is an old English name The placename for the village in Gloucestershire is recorded as "Stintescombe" in the Charters of Berkeley Castle in circa 1155. Itderives from the Middle English dialect term for a sand-piper, a "stint", with an Old English word for deep hollow or valley, a "coomb".
