Organisations working with young people are being encouraged to refer 11 to 18 year olds with COVID-19 concerns to our new mentoring scheme.

As many of us are aware, young people have been amongst the hardest hit by the effects of COVID-19.

Even though the lockdowns ended some months ago, some young people have said they are anxious about the future, having missed-out on learning, personal development and socialising.

Sadly, some young people are no longer taking part in activities they enjoyed before the pandemic.

It’s also acknowledged they have missed things they may never get to do again such as school leaving proms, sporting competitions, work experience opportunities and other events.

And with more services provided online since the start of the pandemic, some young people are being disadvantaged as they lack decent online devices and access to broadband.

To address these issues, we have set up a new mentoring scheme specifically for young people in partnership with local youth hubs and clubs and counselling experts RightMind.

Young people aged 11 to 18 who are referred to the scheme will be linked with a youth hub and paired-up with a mentor so they can express their feelings and gain support to overcome their issues of concern.

Funding is available to encourage young people to try something new or to go back to something they enjoyed before the pandemic. Access to mental health support is also available.

At the end of the project, the participants will have an opportunity to share their achievements and skills with others.

The scheme will run until 31 March 2022 and is funded thanks to a grant from Kent County Council.
