May saw the start of the 2026 Club competition season and we kicked off on Sunday 10th May with the Talbot Cup organised by former Club Chairman, Peter Gyldard.

The Talbot Cup is a valuable and prestigious trophy which spends most of the year in Much Wenlock Museum for safe keeping. It was originally donated by the owner of the Talbot Inn in1896 to celebrate the life of Dr William Penny Brookes.

This year saw 20 entrants vying for the title and a rain threatened afternoon saw some tremendous competition as the main competition and its associated consolation competition unfolded.

As 6pm drew nigh we reached the finals where some well-known faces took to the stage again. Tony Partridge met Peter Gyldard in the main comp and Guy Mumford faced Geoff Wills in the consolation.

Both encounters resulted in close finishes but in the end Tony P lifted the Talbot Cup and Guy M won the consolation. Our photographs show the finalists collecting their awards from President Don Davies.
