Temporary Road Closures – Folkestone & Hythe Surface Treatment Works – from 30 March 2020

As part of a county-wide programme of ‘Surface Treatments’, it will be necessary to close various roads throughout the Folkestone & Hythe area at certain times to enable Kent County Council to safely carry out these works.

The works involve up to 3 phases of works per road, including patching & repairs beforehand, then laying the Surface Treatment, and finally works to reinstate road markings and adjust iron-works (road drain covers, manhole covers, etc.) to suit the new surface.

The various works may each require a road closure to allow the works to be safely carried out, so there may be up to 3 phases of closures for each road.

The dates of closures have yet to be finalised at the time this is being issued. Once the works have been programmed, the actual dates of closures will be publicised beforehand, sign-posted on site and notified to local residents.

Closures will generally be within the times 7.00 am and 7.00 pm each day, but certain works may need to be carried out outside these times where there is a specific need.

After the Surface Treatment works, a temporary speed limit of 20 mph may need to be imposed in place on certain roads for a period of up to 7 days. Where the 20 mph Speed Limit does apply, this will be clearly indicated by relevant signs displayed on site.

Road closures and other restrictions will be in effect when the appropriate signage and barriers are in place.

Access for any residents and businesses affected will be maintained when it is safe to do so, especially for those roads which are cul-de-sacs; however, there are likely to be delays and certain times when this is not possible for safety reasons.

This Order comes into force from Monday 30 March 2020 and remains in force until the works have been completed, for a maximum of 18 months.

These works are subject to weather and other factors which may potentially cause changes at short notice; every effort will be made to keep as close as possible to the planned dates that are notified, and any changes will be publicised.
