THANK YOU FOR LOOKING AFTER OUR BECK
Looking good, free flowing and bobbling along quite nicely is how the village stream could be described after its annual Beck Tidy at the end of last week.
Ten gentlemen from the village gave up a morning of their time to clear the whole length of the beck from the church down to Boroughbridge Road, removing leaves, roots, branches and old, decayed weed from the water. Very obviously an effective task judging by the various piles of debris that were gradually appearing on the side of the stream.
As Co-ordinator of the task, Paul Collinson, remarked “A big exercise, but well worth it”.
Beck maintenance is now routinely carried out year round when the need for a spruce up is identified and the annual tidy is part of that programme, Regular work is proving to be a worthwhile task as major benefits are becoming increasingly obvious. There does not need to be one big annual clean up, the beck is kept tidy and looking as good it can be all year round, and, very importantly, clearing it on a regular basis helps with flood prevention.
Paul said “A big thank you to all the volunteers. We couldn't do it without you. Your efforts are much appreciated by the village”.
A big round of applause and a heartfelt thank you to all of the volunteers involved throughout the year.
