The Ann Allen Allotments
The Parish Council are honoured to announce that at the January Meeting of the Council, members voted unanimously to name the allotments situated in Oakfield Park The Ann Allen Allotments in recognition of Ann’s 37 years service to the Parish Council and her constituents.
Ann was extremely self sufficient and delighted in growing her own fruits for jams, sauces and pickles. Ann started her career in catering, moving to school catering, before finding her home at the feet of serving the public in her numerous roles.
It is the intention of the Council to place a plaque and bench by the allotments, with sourced funding, in order that Ann’s family may have somewhere of solace and peace when remembering Ann.
We also note that is was our intention to hold a celebration service for Ann in early January, but this simply wasn't feasible without understanding what would be achievable in terms of any spread of infection at the time.
We are extremely grateful to both Wilmington Academy and Wilmington Grammar Boys and Girls who had offered the use of their space, time staff to assist the Parish in achieving such a service.
It is the intention of the Council to explore other avenues of celebration, later in the year and we will keep you updated.
We hope that you agree, this is a fitting tribute to an exceptional woman.
