For the Oakley members competing today in the Club Two Wood Pairs event, it was an early start as organiser Kay had produced a programme designed to ensure the Final was completed before the heat in Balmy Basingstoke became too intense. All pairs played 5 games of 6 ends with Marion Bringes partnered by Sue Dixon and Joan Ball partnered by Martin Vickers coming undefeated through the Leagues and contesting the Final. It always looked like this would be a close game and so it proved with both teams scoring a three on the first two ends. After 5 of the 6 ends Marion and Sue trailed 6-5 but having delivered three bowls were holding tthe shot necessary to take the match to an extra end. Martin, however, proved up for the occasion drawing the shot to give him and Joan victory. Congratulations to both finalists, to all who participated and to those involved with the organisation. The event was concluded in 4.5 hours and we were on the way home by 2pm.
