The UK’s old copper landline network (PSTN) is being switched off by January 2027 and
replaced with digital phone services.
For many households the change will be straightforward, but older residents and those using telecare devices, pendant alarms or older home phones may need to take additional steps to ensure everything continues working correctly.
Residents are encouraged to:
∙check whether their current phone will still work
∙contact telecare or alarm providers
∙ask providers about emergency backup during power cuts
