UPDATE 11 - Superfast Fibre Broadband Project for Throwley
Good news for Easter Holiday, which I received through our MP Helen Whately! BDUK and CityFibre, the company which is contracted to provide the broadband service to Kent, have issued the following joint statement of intent:
“Through Project Gigabit, BDUK are committed to achieve 85% gigabit coverage of the UK by 2025, and then to nationwide coverage by 2030.
An opportunity has been identified to extend planned coverage in the villages of Wichling and Throwley, so BDUK has proposed to allocate additional funding to facilitate gigabit connections in these areas as part of the Project Gigabit contract for Kent (lot 29).
BDUK are currently working with CityFibre, the contracted supplier, to formalise the proposal which is dependent on the agreement of a business case and contract change notice.”
It has also been confirmed that proposed contract covers all the 164 Throwley properties connected to Eastling exchange.
Both Helen and Throwley Parish Council will press now that a firm plan is in place regarding coverage and timescale. As I said before, we hope for the project to be completed in 2025.
