Update from EMR: Major engineering works at Newark impacting services from Sunday 3 to Sunday 10 September
Network Rail will shortly be working to completely renew the River Devon Viaduct, which carries the railway over the River Trent.
As a result of this work, there will be major changes to EMR services between Sunday 3 to Sunday 10 September, with a reduced timetable to and from Newark Castle and rail replacement services in operation.
This project, which is being undertaken by teams at Network Rail, will see a full renewal of the bridge, including replacement beams. Work will also take place to install new rails and sleepers, as well as structural improvements to the viaduct itself.
Once the £2million investment work is complete, passengers will benefit from increased reliability and the railway will be future-proofed to enable trains to continue to run over the viaduct for years to come.
Passengers planning to travel along the Nottingham, Newark, Lincoln and Grimsby corridor between these dates are advised to plan ahead and check before travelling.

Please note, on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 September there will be no services on this route due to strike action by RMT and ASLEF unions. The latest strike information can be found here: https://www.eastmidlandsrailway.co.uk/rail-strike
