Thank you for contacting me regarding the concerns which have been raised over the works being carried out by Mr Collins at Stowe. I have inspected the work in question ad can confirm that he has carried out the work in accordance with the Countryside stewardship agreement specification he has signed up to. Coppicing the existing hedgerow species at ground level, removing the Elder plants, dead species and bramble is an important part of the specification. I hope you can assure the residents of Stowe that once the hedge has re sprouted and any gaps have been replanted, the rejuvenated hedge will serve as an improved resource for wildlife and invertebrates, as well as an improved source of pollen and nectar.
