Parish and Town Councils in Rotherham were recently advised by RMBC that permission for hanging baskets on lamppost would only be granted when an independent stress testing had been carried out. This stress testing will confirm the suitability and safety of the lampposts for the installation of hanging baskets.

As other councils have reported the timing of this announcement by RMBC has created some significant challenges due to budget allocation and timings with contractors. We have raised our concerns with RMBC about the lack of consultation, communication and the timing of this and have been supported by our Ward Councillors.

RMBC are now in the process of procurement and have agreed to contribute to the costs of this. Dalton Parish Council have taken the decision to relocate the flower displays planned for the hanging baskets for this year; to have them planted in and around the two community centres, Dalton Parish Hall and Sunnyside Community Centre. This is to ensure the flowers are used whilst at there best and the community are able to have some enjoyment from
them.

We know how much residents enjoy seeing the hanging baskets in the Parish and are hopeful that these should be installed in future years; in the meantime we hope you will enjoy them in their new locations.
