Further to our earlier news regarding the naming of the roads in the Barrrasford 'Potts' development, we have now been advised that, following our public consultation and submission to NCC objecting to the use of the proposed generic road names of 'Wisteria Way and Rosewood Close', NCC and the developer have adopted 2 of our 3 proposals.

The roads will now be called:

  • Whinstone Lane: the Northumberland Whinstone Company Limited was the first registered quarry company in the area, formed in the early nineteenth century. The Whin Sill rock formation runs through the village to the current Barrasford Quarry. The name therefore has historical and current significance.
  • Steppings Close: the enclosures of 1774 named part of the area 'The Steppings'.
Whilst we had hoped for the adoption of our first choice of 'The Potts' and the simplicity of all the houses having a single road name, this was against current NCC policy.
On balance, we are pleased that NCC and the developer have both listened to us, and our representation of the views of the community, and that we have successfully convinced them to adopt road names with real meaning to the community.
