Job Title: Parish Clerk

Job Category: Administrative

Location: Charter Hall, Smarden, Kent

Travel Required: Yes

Level/Salary Range: National Joint Council for Local Government services

Position Type: 10 hours per week. Based from home but available in the Parish once a week.

JOB BRIEF To act as primary point of contact for the Parish Council, and in particular Smarden Parishioners’ general enquiries and correspondence

To resolve general enquiries on behalf of the Parish Council acting in accordance with Ashford Borough Council and Kent County Council.

To organise and attend Parish Council meetings

To organise and run the Annual Village Meeting

To prepare monthly agendas with the Parish Chair

To take minutes whilst giving procedural advice

To keep accurate financial records

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Be willing to carry out all the Council's administrative tasks

To prepare the Parish Councils accounts and help prepare the annual budget

To maintain and keep accurate records of expenditure for audit purposes

Ensure GDPR Compliance

With support from Parish Chair help deliver projects undertaken by the Parish Council

Review and maintain contracts, ensuring annual budgets are achieved

REQUIREMENTS

To be able to work in close partnership with the Parish Council

Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects

Experienced in reviewing and approving contracts, with a close eye for detail

Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to eloquently convey complex ideas

To live in the local area and be available at least once a week

To work from the Charter Hall at least once a week for a minimum of 3 hours
