Sunday saw West End members Maureen Robertson and Gill Callaghan bowl to victory in the ladies County pairs section 2 playoffs.

Eleven teams started the day and after three rounds Maureen and Gill came out on top, winning their games against two teams from South Molton by 23 to 3 and 26 to 7 both games being conceded by the South Molton ladies before 16 ends had been played.

Playing against a team from Hemyock in the final game of the day was not so easy. The West End pair started from where they had left off in their previous game shooting into a 12 to 2 lead by the 9th end, but they dropped 3 on the 10th followed by 2 on the next two ends, bringing the scores to 12 to 9 on the 12th end.

Would they buckle under the pressure ? Was the heat getting to them? Not our ladies.

The next 6 ends were even with West End scoring 6 shots and Hemyock 5 shots, the score was now 18-14 .

On the 19th end West End scored 4 an eight shot lead.

Hemyock needed to win the 20th end to stay in the game, the holding shot went from one team to the other all through the end with Maureen and Gill holding on to 1 shot at the end, thereby winning the game by 9 shots.

The audience rose from there seats as one and cheered, well done.

Congratulations to you both.

Maureen and Gill now play in the last 16 Devon County playoff.
