Sevenoaks District Council is asking for views on a draft strategy to support homeless people and those at risk of losing their home.

The new, five year Homelessness and Rough Sleepers Strategy aims to build on the excellent services provided by the Council and its partners to help those impacted by homelessness.

The Council Cabinet Member for Housing and Health, Cllr Kevin Maskell says: “In these challenging times, more people are struggling to keep a roof over their heads. Through a range of initiatives we are working hard to provide help for residents threatened with homelessness and those who have lost their home.

“Our comprehensive support package together with our affordable housing company, Quercus Housing, provides homes for residents in either temporary or permanent accommodation depending on availability. In addition, we are working closely with housing providers, including private landlords, to ensure more property is made available to people on our lists.

“Over the last three years, these initiatives have led to fewer people needing temporary housing.

“Our new Strategy builds on these successes by providing additional support for people facing domestic abuse and extra advice and assistance to help keep people in their homes. We are proposing to work even more closely with partners to deliver supported housing for residents facing homelessness.

“We’re really eager to hear local people’s thoughts and views on our draft Strategy and new ideas.”

Residents can have their say on the new Homelessness and Rough Sleeper Strategy by taking part in a short survey that is open until 5pm on Thursday 5 January 2023.

As a small thank you for their time, members of the public who complete the survey can enter into a free prize draw to win one of four £50 Marks and Spencer vouchers. Terms and conditions apply.

The survey is available at www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/homelessnesssurvey or by calling the Council on 01732 227000 for a paper copy of the survey.
