Viscount R.B. Bennett - Canada Day 1st July
Viscount R. B. Bennett (“of Mickleham and of Calgary and Hopewell in Canada”), a former Prime Minister of Canada (and a former resident of Juniper Hall), was buried in St Michael's Churchyard. On 1st July 2017 Canada celebrates its 150th birthday as a nation, and to highlight Mickleham’s links with that country, our village has been asked to declare that date as “Viscount R.B. Bennett-Canada Day”.
At 12 noon on 1st July there will be a short ceremony at St Michael’s involving the laying of the Canadian Flag on Viscount Bennett's tomb, the laying of flowers on the plaque and a short prayer from Parish Priest the Rev’d Malcolm Raby.
After the ceremony, a special Canadian BBQ will be on offer at The Running Horses (price £9 including salad).
