Weather update from Buckinghamshire Council
Headline:
Areas of low pressure in the next couple of days will bring periods of heavy rain, leading to difficult driving conditions and surface water flooding which could result in disruption to transport and isolated flooding of homes and businesses.
Warnings issued:
- Yellow RAIN Warning (Very Low Likelihood of Medium Impacts) valid 0000 to 1000 on Saturday 3rd October 2020 (Surrey and eastern areas of the Thames Valley).
- Yellow RAIN Warning (Low Likelihood of Medium Impacts) valid 0300 on Saturday 3rd October to 1200 on Sunday 4th October 2020 (western areas of the Thames Valley).
Today / Tomorrow:
Areas of locally heavy rain will move north this morning and may linger across the Thames Valley for much of the day but some drier interludes may develop across Berkshire and Surrey. We could see another 5-10 mm this afternoon. Further locally heavy rain is expected to move from the east during the evening and overnight, clearing to the west during Saturday morning although it may continue in the west of the Thames Valley through much of the day. Further east across the rest of the Thames Valley and across Surrey it will become mainly dry with sunny spells developing.
Saturday night / Sunday:
The areas of rain over or just to the west of the Thames Valley will return eastwards again on Saturday evening and night bringing further locally heavy rain or showers to the rest of the Thames Valley but will gradually weaken is it moves across Surrey overnight. Surrey looks like being fine and dry with sunny spells on Sunday but cloudy conditions with light rain look set to continue across the Thames Valley and these conditions will spread southeast to affect Surrey during the evening and night.
Between tonight and Sunday morning, we could see a further 15-30 mm quite widely but some locations, especially across the Thames Valley, could see as much as 40-50 mm. The Met Office have issued a couple of Yellow, Medium Impact Rain Warnings (see above) to cover the potential impacts from the heavy rain over the next couple of days. Impacts could include difficult driving conditions, disruption to road and rail transport as well as isolated flooding of homes and businesses due to surface water and river flooding. The Flood Guidance Statement is also Yellow to highlight the risk of seeing impacts from surface water and river flooding.
Further Ahead:
Monday and Tuesday will see a mix of sunshine and showers, isolated heavy. Further showers are expected on Wednesday, but generally lighter and less widespread than the previous days. It is expected to remain unsettled through the rest of next week with further rain or showers at times.
