We ended our season of week-end Friendly matches on a high.
We hosted Erdington Court on Sat 28 Aug, and won all 5 rinks with a score of 104-52. The best winning rink was David Meredith, Mike Ambrose and Mark Williams, who received 50th Anniversary pens. This game was way oversubscribed and thanks to Roy, the Captain of E/Court we were able to loan three of our players to them (David Carr, Pauline Mantle and Roy Sheridan) so that more of our Members could play. Thank you David, Pauline and Roy for agreeing to the 'free' loan.
It was a very enjoyable game, with some of the matches having close scores. Our 50th Anniversary Pens were presented to each of our guests
The following day we played Kings Heath, with 4 triples and 1 rink (fours).
Once again we had a good win (4 rinks to 1 rink) with a score of 99-63. Our best winning rink was Bernard Woollard, David Sykes and Mike Ambrose who each received a 50th Anniversary Pen.
It was good to meet up, once again, with our friends from Kings Heath. (We played them at their Club on 29 May, where we also had a win.)
In celebration of our 50th Anniversary, commemorative pens were given to each of our guests.
That was our last week-end friendly match for this season. It has been an interesting season and we have been fortunate that our Fixtures Secretary (Pam Pooley) managed to arrange so many fixtures.
We did have three fixtures that were cancelled by our opponents (Entaco Away, Snitterfield Away and Corley at Home).
Overall we won 11 matches and lost 3. WELL DONE TO ALL PLAYERS.
As I will not be Acting Club Captain next season, I would like to thank you all for your understanding with my team selections as it has been difficult to select teams when so many wish to play. My general rule has been to have a 'balanced' team whilst trying to be fair to all those who wished to play.
I would also like to thank all those who have helped setting up the equipment, and those who helped with the raffles. You know who you are.
A special thanks to Doug for all his help, and for being my 'sounding board'.
It augurs well for the future of our week-end friendly matches.
