Welsh Water have issued the following news:

Good afternoon,

I'm emailing to let you know about our £42,000 investment project to upgrade approximately 105 metres of water mains in Lion Street, Hay-on-Wye. Some of the water pipes we're replacing are over 100 years old, with parts of the network nearing the end of their operational life. This investment will help reduce the risk of bursts and leakage, improve water pressure, and provide a more reliable water supply for customers in the area.

Our work is scheduled to commence on the 21st September 2026 but you may see us in the area completing preparatory work from the 18th September 2026. Providing everything goes to plan, our work will be completed by the end of October 2026.

Due to the location of the water mains, road closures are required to keep our teams and the public safe. We will work closely with the local authority to minimise disruption and ensure any restrictions are in place only for as long as necessary. I have attached a copy of the letter that has been distributed to local residents which contains further information about the scheme, including details of the road closures. I have also attached copies of the diversion routes.

Throughout most of the work, customers should experience no interruption to their water supply. However, there may be occasions when water appears discoloured following network activity. This is normal and can usually be resolved by running the cold kitchen tap for a short period. If we need to temporarily interrupt water supplies, affected customers will be contacted directly by text message.

There are sometimes factors beyond our control that may delay or change the scope of work, but we'll always minimise any potential disruption where possible and do our best to keep customers informed throughout the project.

We will provide updates as the scheme progresses on our website at dwrcymru.com/InYourArea where customers can search their postcode and sign up to receive updates by email or text.

We understand that this work may cause some inconvenience and would like to thank you for your patience while we complete these essential improvements.
