It was a tough evening for Wellington’s bowlers in Week 12 of the West Somerset Bowls League, with only one of the town’s three sides able to find any joy on a night otherwise dominated by heavy defeats.

A Team Outgunned by Title-Chasing Bridgwater A

Wellington A faced the formidable challenge of Bridgwater A, a side still clinging to an outside chance of snatching the Division One title. The visitors showed exactly why they remain in the hunt, sweeping to an emphatic 11–1 victory. Wellington battled hard, securing a single drawn rink, but Bridgwater’s consistency across the board proved overwhelming. For the A team, it was a reminder of the gulf between mid‑table solidity and title‑contending ruthlessness.

B Team Fall to Promotion Rivals

In Division Two, Wellington B travelled to North Petherton B knowing that promotion to next season’s new Division Two was already assured. Even so, they would have hoped to lay down a marker against the only side capable of catching them at the top. Instead, North Petherton B delivered a sharp lesson, winning 10–2 and keeping their own slim hopes of finishing as champions alive.

Wellington B did manage to secure one rink, but the aggregate slipped away early and never returned. The consolation is clear: whatever happens next week, Wellington B will be playing in the higher division next season.

C Team Provide the Only Spark of the Night

The bright spot—indeed the only bright spot—came courtesy of Wellington C, who produced a composed and confident performance to defeat Burnham-on-Sea C 11–1. It was a result built on steady heads and strong finishes, with two winning rinks and a comfortable aggregate margin. On a night when the club needed something to cheer, the C team delivered it.

Their victory not only lifts spirits but also strengthens their position in the lower half of Division Two, giving them valuable momentum heading into the final round.

A Night to Forget, With One Result to Remember

Two heavy defeats and one morale‑boosting win: that was the Wellington story in Week 12. The A and B teams will want to quickly move past their results, while the C team can rightly take pride in being the club’s shining light on an otherwise disappointing evening.

With one round of matches remaining, Wellington’s sides will be eager to finish strongly—and perhaps take inspiration from the C team’s resilience when it mattered most.
