Here we are again struggling to attract players .We run a good club ,we try to make the season attractive for the players but we are unable to replenish our team from home grown tallent.

Admitadely every team has this problem but something made me think last Sunday.

I am a registered bowls England coach .Last week i had a call from an Ilkeston Lady asking if i would give a coaching lesson to her and three others . I hesitated but thought why not . I held the session at Coronation park and it was an absolute delight . The pair of married couples had joined enterprise a small ilkeston club. They enjoyed the session and thanked me .i in turn gave them my club card saying you can play for two clubs if you want to give us a try.

There is the crux of the problem in my time at Eastwood sCoronation Park only once have i been asked to coach. Why is this ?

Compare Eastwood with other comparable Towns . Heanor has three clubs . Ilkeston Four clubs . Eastwood only one with Brinsley sharing the green . The fact is Eastwood had a club that died through lack of support and the way things are shaping this could repeat itself.

Some people i suspect may not bother about this, but the plain fact is if clubs no longer exist and stop paying rink fees to the council the green will inevitably close . It would be sad for club bowlers but we can move on and join other clubs and enjoy our sport.

So Eastwood what do you want . Has anybody got ideas or is it a case of Whay can,t be bothered.
